Description

Winner of the 2014 Innov8 For health competition, Wholesome is the only experience that collects healthy recipes from the web, allows you to track them, and gives personal recommendations to optimize your nutrition. Wholesome scores recipes out of 10 points on their healthfulness. Points are added for nutrition density and deducted for things like too much sugar or sodium. Scores provide the feedback that allow you to compare recipes and make conscious decisions about what you eat. I use this app instead of others because if tracks vitamins and minerals. It is, however, a little difficult to enter food. I wish this had a barcode scanner like some of the other apps do that would automatically pull up the nutritional information without having to hunt for it in the search.
  • My favorite app!

Unlike other food diaries, this application counts everything: macros, vitamins, minerals, and even antioxidants. I can see where the gaps in my nutrition is on a daily basis, adjust and edit caloric needs based on percentage of macros, edit nutrition goals (I.e. adjusting daily vitamin intake), put in recipes to track nutrition, and enter in my own ingredients. Healthful recipes and their nutrition content are already available to search, along with links to sites with those recipes. An update that I would like to see is the nutrition tracking of specific types of fat that are being consumed. Currently, the app will differentiate between intake of linoleic or alpha linoleic fatty acids, but it does not differentiate between intake of saturated, monounsaturated, or polyunsaturated fats. Otherwise, I am very happy with this app and have used it in conjunction with calorie restriction to make sure that I am getting my nutrition too!
  • No barcode scanner

I normally use MyFitnessPal but I recently went Vegan and decided I needed something that’d keep better track of my nutrients. I love the breakdown of nutrients but the app isn’t very user friendly. You can’t copy past ingredients and most of the time adding a recipe won’t work. And there isn’t a barcode scanner to scan items. They have to be entered manually.

Wish it had a scanning option like other apps to make adding foods easier.

Okay I only say that because it’s time consuming to enter a meal of half the products need to be entered. I do love how informative this app is! I reference it very often and love how I can keep track of everything. Wish it was a bit more like MyFitnessPal when it come to scanning and the amount of items in the system. That’s all thanks!!

I have been researching foods and diet on an amateur basis for nearly 20 years. I find that this app has incorporated some of the best info simply and efficiently. I thoroughly recommend this app to everyone I know who is interested in taking charge of one of their most valuable assets, Their HEALTH!

I just purchased the Pro edition but it still doesn’t have info on best nutrition sources or health benefits when you click on some of the vitamins and minerals.
