  • Poor integration with my bank.

I use one of the largest banks in the world, and YNAB has been unable to sync transactions in over a week. Inexcusable.
  • Start On Desktop!

Early 2018: I highly recommend using this program on a desktop computer the first time you go to use it and set it up. It takes about an hour or so and the tutorial is better. Once you go through the steps on the website and see how the tools work, it translates over to the app better. Especially since some of the tools don’t exist on the app or can be difficult to find. But I’m pretty excited about it and can already tell it’s going to be super helpful in managing my money. Update 6/25/18: This app has been SO helpful!! Definitely less stressed. I know exactly where my money is going and how much is being spent. They’ve put some really good updates in place that make the app very fluid and easier to use! My only wish now is that I want to see the more detailed reports like on the desktop version. Particularly the one that shows my income and expenses, and what the Net Income is. Update 7/18/18: this app is still working perfectly! I will say, spending habits are hard to break. But it’s everything to know that my bills are covered for the month and if I need something I can get it. I still wish the reports were more detailed. It would be nice to see my net income so far for the month to make sure I’m not over spending, and the pie chart data that shows where I’ve been spending it.

Really wish the app would respect planned income when planning out future months.

I have been using YNAB since 2012 and there is no other software out there that can compare. I had Mvelopes for awhile but although you have to account for every penny and stick to a spending plan, there was absolutely no flexibility if priorities had to change. YNAB online and app is the most powerful and user friendly software I could have ever hoped for, and I have tried many. Budgeting still takes discipline but it lets you prioritize your decisions. Will probably always use it. Can’t live without it because I always know where I stand and what needs attention.
  • YNAB is saving my family from financial disaster

When I really love about YNAB it trains you, It trains you to use the money that you have. And only been able to budget the money that you have you have to make good financial decisions. And there’s good financial decisions are made by sitting down with your family and establishing priorities. With other but budget apps including my Excel-based app or using Mint.com, those help because I was budgeting money that I didn’t have. I love that it’s not only an app but also there are huge amounts of educational resources on how to tackle debt, how to save more money, etc. My stress level is lower thanks to YNAB and we are turning our finances around. Thank you YNAB!
  • Great app, needs refining

Great app, love it. But when on the budget screen every time I tap a category it selects the one right above it, and the keyboard moves up and quick budget covers the category. Fix this and it’ll be a 5 Star app. iOS 11.4 iPhone 7

YNAB has a genius design and philosophy. I spend less time checking and managing my money than before, and yet I have a better grasp on my real financial situation understand than ever before. I've used Microsoft Money, Mint, and Quicken. YNAB is easily the best.
  • Confusing

This app is not easy to get started on — there are not clear directions for setting it up or how to use any/all of the features. It’s also not helpful if you want to pay down your credit card balance each month in full, but don’t want to account for money beyond that month’s statement. It’s also not helpful if you have a bunch of business expenses or split costs with others because you can’t account for the income that will pay for those expenses. It’s also way too expensive.

This app has made me view my money in a whole new way. I’m so much more careful about my spending. I’ve saved so much money in just the last month using it.
  • I really love it, but I’ve had some problems

For part of last year and the majority of this year, the app was pretty useless to me, since it couldn’t connect to my most important bank. It worked great in the beginning, but when my bank upgraded some security measures, YNAB couldn’t connect and I would lose my place budget-wise. I tried to keep up by reconciling, but it would get confusing and I would end up repeating transactions when it finally did connect. Still though, even with the issues, just my first few months with YNAB was so great, it was absolutely worth the subscription. But, I haven’t used it much at all until recently again. It seems the issue has been fixed, so I gave it a month to see how true that was, and it seems to be true. I really liked this app when I first used it, and it helped put into perspective how much I was spending on things like lunch at work and things I really could’ve waited on; it was also really useful to see me achieve my financial goals. I’ve really suffered without it, because I legit don’t have the attention span to keep an excel budget, so I’ve really missed YNAB. I’m hoping in another month or so, I can come back and edit this review with some more stars, because I really like this app and I really like the people behind it, who have been really supportive and definitely kept me informed the whole way regarding my bank issue. Granted, my bank is really localized, so if you use a big-name bank like Bank of America, I don’t think you’ll have the same issues I did. I think my experience has been really particular to people in my area. So, absolutely worth it; just make sure you’re prepared to do manual transactions if your bank doesn’t connect.
